| i've been having lots of similar problems. when looking at zone alarm, with no applications open or running, i am constantly getting sends and recieves across the net. (very active) they are comming off of svchost.exe (microsoft service processor) and listening to TCP port 1025. when i block that port, it just moves to another one, but i can't see where it goes. after about 3 or 4 minutes of this activity starting, my internet connection goes dead. when i cancel svchost.exe from task manager, internet connectivity is stopped (fwiw, 12 to 24 megs of memory used and 10-30% cpu activity). i've run every malware check i can and it comes up empty handed. - multiple virus checks using 3 different virus scanners show no faults. - adware and other type programs show a clean system - blocking 1025 results in the 'program' relocating to another tcp addy that i can't seem to trace. - checking my "run" programs in the registry shows only one program which is symantic antivirus. and, just incase, I cannot upgrade to XP service pack 2 since it cannot download the upgrade with that much activity across the net. I thought I had this problem licked, and then it came back. VERY VERY frustrating...
